Animals found in the savana
The African elephant
The African elephant has two different sub-species the bush elephant and the forest elephant. They are not very different but the differences will be listed below. African elephants usually eat about 450 kilograms of food a day meaning that they spend most of there time eating. African elephants usually live in a very close knit community with a female leader called a matriarch. elephant are very intelligent and emotional creatures who morn the dead and give them a funeral like ceremony and also visit the graves of dead elephants. African elephants have a gestation period of 22 months or 640 days and the calf ways about 100 kg when its born
giraffe
Giraffes are maybe one of the most recognizable animals from Africa, this is usually because of its extremely long neck and legs for it is the latest terrestrial animal on earth measuring in at a whopping 5-6 meters tall and weighing in at around 1.600 kilograms for the avridge adult. contrary to popular belief the long necks are not only used for reaching food at great heights but also as weapons for battling for a mate as (seen in the video below) younger males will also play-fight like this in order to train themselves for when the need to battle for a mate. A giraffes gestation period is about 400 to 460 days and when the giraffe is born it is around 1.8 meters tall so around or 5 11 feet tall and when it is born the baby giraffe falls about a meter because the mother cant lay down to give the birth
Predator prey relationships
he relationship between a lion and a zebra is your typical predator prey relationship, the lions catch a couple of zebras and eat them and the zebras repopulate. today there are around 21,000 lions roaming Africa and about 750,000 zebras roaming Africa and this small number of lions is due to loss of territory and poaching. So about 2 thousand years ago there were about 1 million lions on earth but now only 21,000 now imagine how much the amount of zebras in retrospect to the amount of lions must have increased withe that great loss to the lions population.
the zebras usually mate in in October and November and give birth to 1 foal in July or august. They breed every 18 - 24 months. They are not monogamous so the mails are not restricted to one female so the males can reproduce with multiple females at a time. Females can reproduce as early as 3 years of age but males can only reproduce at around 4-5 years of age
Lions don't really have a particular mating season so they can mate year round. Females aren't just limited to one male and can and mate with multiple males when she is in heat. The average gestation period is about 110 days and produces 1-4 cubs at a time. Female lions do most of the hunting and hunt in groups of up to eight usually relying on stalking there pray or using strategy in order to catch their food and have a success rate of 19-30% depending on how many lionesses are working together.

Animal adaptations
Elephants and their ears
Elephants have big ears not to specifically increase their hearing but to in order to lose heat in the hot climate. In Africa its extremely hot during the day and for a big animal like an elephant it is extremely hard hard to dissipate the extreme heat so they evolved bigger ears in order to dissipate the heat more. The large ears also help in increasing hearing capability for elephants don't have good vision so they rely heavily on hearing.

Invasive species
The fire ant
Fire ant are one invasive species found in Africa carried there by forighn ships. This type of ant has a rather painful stinging bite and is currently replacing the resident ant species which is messing up the food chain. And causing unnecessary pain in local animals like elephants and aardvarks.
