Climate
Tropical grasslands are found in both wet and dry climates. These areas are hot all year round, almost never droping around 17-18 degrees Celsius. These areas are generally very dry but they so have a season of heavy rain. There is around 20-50 inches of rainfall each year. It is very important that that rain is concentrated for six to eight months followed by a long drought.
Landscape and Soil
The landscape in the Savanna is mostly mossy green with trees spaced throughout so the canopy dose not close. The open canopy allows light to reach the ground and support the herbaceous layer of the earth that is made up of mostly grasses. The Oak Savanna is a porous type of savanna in the Northern Hemisphere. Some classification systems also recognize a grassland savanna without any trees. The soil of this biome is very spongy and rapidly drains the rain the falls. It's only a thin layer of Humus that provides vegetation with the nutrients they need.

Symbiosis
An example of Symbiosis is the mutualistic relationship of the Rhino and the Ox-pecker bird. Rhinos get ticks from grazing on thorn bushes and that is bad for their thick, yet sensitive skin. The ticks feed on the Rhino's blood. These ticks make the Rhino itch so they spend time rubbing against rocks and trees to get rid of the ticks. The Ox-peckers come in handy here. They perch themselves on the Rhino's back and find the ticks to eat. The Ox-peckers are picky though, only taking the fat ticks. The Ox-pecker also alert the Rhino of predators by screaming and hissing.
